The truth is that most onboarding programs fall short when compared with other customer-facing initiatives. This makes sense since you’re trying to pull off multiple goals at once.
Managing (With Staffing Management)
For most small businesses, managing employees isn’t a top priority. That’s understandable if you just have a few people working for you and not very many customers, it doesn’t matter if your workers are happy or not. Flexibility is key; real-time updates are nice but not necessary.
One problem is that many of these systems don’t have workflows that are built-in. This means a lot of companies tend to reinvent the wheel and make their own workflows from scratch. The thing is, any software system you buy should come with an out-of-the-box workflow. If it doesn’t, then you may want to consider another system.
Administration (e.g. Internal Communication, Expense Reports, Document Management, etc.)
The market is flooded with companies claiming they can help you manage all aspects of your HR Software Systems. Beware, as many of these programs provide limited functionality and require a large amount of customization in order to get them to do what you want. Administration is really a specialty unto itself and requires software that has been built from scratch for an organization just like yours.
Leave & Attendance Management
While at-work sick days are definitely a problem, out-of-work sick days may be an even bigger issue for small businesses. When employees are allowed unlimited sick days, it gives workers an incentive to take off whenever they feel under the weather, even if they’re not truly ill. When that happens, productivity and profits plummet.
